Past SearchesOur first search was in Dromtrasna for Ricky Loughnane in December ’04. This search lasted 12 days over the Christmas period and during that search we coordinated over 450 people. In addition we aided in the recovery of his body from the slurry pit where he had drowned.
Our third search was in Meelin where we were called in after an 83 year old man failed to return home after a doctor’s appointment. We were on the ground with our specialised night unit within 50 minutes of getting the call from Kanturk Gardaí at 10.15pm on a Sunday night. We aided the Gardaí in the recovery of the man’s body later that night. Our fourth search was in Newmarket for another elderly man who went missing. We were on the ground within an hour and aided the Gardaí in the recovery of the body.
We do not operate on our own; we have formal links with the Gardaí and the Civil Defence. The first thing we do when we get a report of a missing person is to contact the Gardaí and inform them if they have not already been informed. We then inform Civil Defence that we are initiating a search. We ask for assistance from both organisations and keep them informed of the progress of the search, giving and receiving information. |

Our second search was in Rockchapel in March 05 and involved an elderly Alzheimer’s sufferer who went missing on a Saturday evening. We were on the ground and had set up a search headquarters within 40 minutes of getting the call. We searched through the night and we found him at 8.15am the following morning. Our quick response and determined searching saved his life. 
Our last search was in Knocknasna where we were called in by Abbeyfeale Gardaí to aid in the search for a young man. We found him alive 3 hours later. | Abeyfeale District Search and Rescue |
